When I first created AWS Cloud Practitioner Exam’s study mnemonics, it was mostly as a joke (and also because I thrive on having little tricks to memorize things). Surprisingly, I’ve had A LOT of people commenting about them, and how they have helped them memorize important concepts for studying for the exam. So here we are, with updated versions of mnemonics and study aides!
Were any of these helpful? Or do you have any of your own you’d like to share with the world to help others ace the exam? Share with us on LinkedIn or Twitter (tag me! @hirokonishimura or /in/hirokonishimura)
AWS Concepts Mnemonics
6 Advantages of Cloud Computing
I couldn’t come up with a mnemonic for these, but I’ve come up with shortened words/phrases to jog your memory.
- Subscription (trade fixed expense for variable expense): you’re basically subscribing to the cloud resources instead of spending a lot of money upfront to buy lots of infrastructure hardware
- Costco (benefit from massive economies of scale): AWS has purchased a huge amount of servers so you can utilize them for cheaper, like Costco warehouse providing savings by purchasing by bulk and passing on the savings to you
- Capacity (stop guessing capacity): the resources can be “rightsized” which lets you go with the flow and scale up or down depending on your needs without committing upfront to something expensive and over-specced for your needs
- Speedy (increase speed and agility): your organization can increase the speed and agility of producing results because you are not boggled down with infrastructure management tasks that come with running your own data centers (and the lengthy processes of acquiring expensive hardware)
- No Data Centers (stop spending money running and maintaining data centers): similar to above; you don’t have to worry about the human or material costs for creating and maintaining data centers
- Global (go global in minutes): your product can be live for the whole world to purchase/utilize within few minutes

The Well-Architected Framework: CROPSS
- C: Cost Optimization
- R: Reliability
- O: Operational Excellence
- P: Performance Efficiency
- S: Security
- S: Sustainability
Before they added the 6th pillar, we had a good thing going, but here we are, with 2 S’s at the end now… Maybe think of a snake sssss-ing…?

AWS Cloud Adoptions Framework (AWS CAF): Up ROE/Down B, ROBE
- Up ROE: ESG (environmental, social, governance), Revenue, Operational Efficiency
- Down B: Business Risk
The “Up” are things that improve/grow/increase. “Down” should reduce.
Alternatively, ROBE
- R: Revenue (up)
- O: Operational Efficiency (up)
- B: Business Risk (down)
- E: ESG (up)
